READING TN-L MAIL USING
 THE TN-L ARCHIVES

Disclaimer

AN EASY WAY TO READ EMAIL

For some people, the volume of daily email from the TN-L mailing list can be overwhelming. Others don't like the risks of getting a computer virus through email.  An easy solution is set your TN-L membership so that no email is sent directly to you and to use your Internet browser (e.g. Netscape, Internet Explorer) to read TN-L email in the TN-L Archives.

The archives are password-protected to keep them private and are only available to TN-L members. The first time you access the archives, you need to enter your email address and the password you want to use to access the archives. A message will be sent to your email address to ensure you are exactly who you say you are. Once you respond to that email message, you can access the archives by entering your email address and your password. If you have a private computer, you can elect to store your login email address and password  in a "cookie" so you don't need to enter your email address and password every time you access the archives.

No longer will you have to sift through your TN-L email to try and follow a conversation "thread." The new archives have some wonderful features including being able to quickly and easily sort a month's posting on TN-L by subject, author or posting date (in earliest or latest posting date order)

The most powerful feature is a search tool to search by keyword, author etc. The archives go back to 1996 and can be searched for postings within a specific date range. For instance, you can find all the postings between January 1996 and March 1998 that contain the keyword "GK."

In addition, you can post to TN-L right on the web site rather than having to go back to your own email program.

Here's how you go about it.

1. Join the TN-L mailing list if you are not a member.
You must be a member in order to access the archives. Here's how to join:

Send an email message to listserv@listserv.uark.edu

with this in the body of the text:

      sub TN-L your name

For example, Jane Doe would send

      sub TN-L Jane Doe

2.  Set your TN-L Membership to Nomail
This sets your TN-L membership to receive no mail from TN-L. You will still be a member but you will no longer get email in your email box.  Send this email once you are a TN-L member.
