General Medical Resources on the Internet The following general medical resources are available online either via dialup, gopher, ftp, or the World Wide Web. Many of these resources contain a wealth of information including mailing lists, newsgroups, bulletin boards, searches etc. that can assist TN patients and their families in keeping up with the latest medical developments. Internet ResourcesFor health professionals and interested consumers, features peer-reviewed articles, "zoomable" color graphics, self-assessment features, medical news, free Medline with free access to abstracts, ( Medline is an index to ten's of thousands of medical and scientific journals) and annotated links to Internet resources. Developed by The National Library of Medicine located at the National Institute of Health, PubMed is a free search service to access the 9 million citations in MEDLINE, the world's most extensive collection of published medical information and Pre-MEDLINE (with links to participating on-line journals), and other related databases. Access is also available to full text articles in a number of medical journals.
Excellent medical resource including free Medline searches. Search it yourself or pay a reasonable fee to have someone else search for you. A very thorough index of Internet links relating to Nervous System diseases. An excellent compilation of neuroscience resources including software, online neuroscience medical journal lists, newsgroups, diseases, academic and clinical info. A not-for-profit organization devoted
to providing medical information for the lay person in three ways: first, an extensive,
downloadable medical library written in lay terminology and reviewed for accuracy by the
organization's Review Board; second, online teleconferencing for individuals who wish to
connect with others who have the same disease; and third, individualized searches of
medical literature on specific medical topics for $20.00 per request, including cost of
mail, photocopies and copyright expenses. UnCover contains records
describing journals and their contents. Over 4000 current citations are added daily.
Patrons may obtain citations for free, but UnCover offers delivery of the entire article
by mail or fax for a fee. The main advantage of this source is that it provides patrons
with free citations from medical journals, that the patron can then research and copy on
his/her own. For $25 per year. a user can select up to 50 titles from the UnCover
database of 17,000 multidisciplinary titles for table of contents alerting via email.
Individual users may also create and store up to 25 search strategies which are run
against all the new articles added to the UnCover database on a weekly basis. Both the
table of contents and search strategy results are e-mailed directly to the user's e-mail
address.
